The sector currently employs over 4.11 million employees and is slated to employ more than 11.29 million employees by 2022. This implies additional creation of ~7.2 million jobs in the 9 year period.
Setup sub sector groups for the identified key trades which would own the trade End to End. (Develop Framework – Pilot - Train - Assess - Improve.) Involve Employers, Employee and private players to impart the required training. Conduct a PILOT study with a center. During pilots, support development of content for the critical trades.

Objective

  • Relate the Indian Furniture & Fittings education standards with the international standards for creating widely accepted world class workforce.
  • Establish/Facilitate in-house Training Centers and Centers of Excellence (CoEs)
  • Develop catalogue of Furniture & Fittings industry occupations/skills and related occupational standards
  • Set-up effective Labor Market Information System (LMIS)
  • Accreditation/Affiliation of training providers (through partners) and Certification of Learners/ Workforce Facilitate\Conduct Training of Trainers and Training of Assessors for enabling skill centers
  • Conduct study to understand the skill gaps in each trade and setup sub sector groups for the key trades of Furniture & Fittings Industry , on a ongoing basis
  • Create awareness and attract learners through Brand Promotion of the Furniture & Fittings Industry
  • Involve employers, learners, other academic and vocational bodies and private players in skill development intervention

Scope

  • Develop occupational standards and curriculum for all the trades by 2016 (for estimated 50% of trades covered under LMIS)
  • Develop Trainers and assessors for enabling skill centers.
  • Create awareness about the profession and potential career opportunities among common people to attract better talent
  • Create Awareness and build SSC brand value in the sector.
  • Involve Employers, Employee and private players to impart the required training. Conduct a PILOT study with a center.
  • During pilots, support development of content for the critical trades
  • Setup sub sector groups for the identified key trades which would own the trade End to End. (Develop Framework – Pilot – Train – Assess – Improve.)
  • Prepare comprehensive Labour Market Intelligence System with 50 trades in the second year of operation

Assistant Carpenter – Wooden Furniture

Eligibility Preferably Class V 18 Years
Description Assistant carpenter is required to assist the Carpenter in making different parts of the furniture and also assist in assembling different parts of the furniture.

Eligibility 5th pass, Preferably 18 Years
Description Cane seat weaver weaves cane on chairs with small holes drilled through the frame around the seat opening .If these seats are carefully woven, they will be strong and wear well, hence it require lot of precision in work.

Eligibility Preferably Class V 18 Years Minimum of two years of experience as an assistant in furniture making preferred
Description Furniture Maker is responsible for designing, building and repairing fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of wood. He/she is required to study the technical drawings, measure, cut and shape wood, plywood or other material.

Description Finisher carries out different activities involved in giving bamboo furniture a finished look as required by the client. Description Fitter is required to assemble various products in modular furniture by delivering the product to the customer, fitting the parts together and checking the final installed products for any damages.
