"India is the second largest & fastest growing telecom market in the world with telephone subscribers 892.02 million at the end of February, 2013. The share of urban subscribers is 61.87% whereas share of rural subscribers is 38.92% in the month of February 2013. The overall Tele-density in India reached to 72.90% at the end of February, 2013. Of the various telecom services, majority of the growth has been driven by Wireless segment. Mobile operators in the wireless segment have alone contributed to 2.4% of India’s GDP for FY’12, and have generated an estimated 2.3 million jobs The subscriber base has grown at 25% CAGR from FY’08 to FY’12, and the revenues for the same period have grown at a CAGR of 11%. India is the fastest growing mobile phone market in the world. The booming telecom industry has been attracting large amount of investments in the country."
Telecom Sector Skill Council, a not-for-profit industry driven body set up under the aegis of the NSDC would strive to: Create a viable ecosystem by implementing an "integrated approach" by prioritizing initiatives that can have a catalytic effect to develop competency based framework of world class excellence for skill development and quality assurance of personnel in the Telecom sector. Narrow the existing gap between demand and supply of skills by increased collaboration between the three primary stakeholders i.e. HR, Industry and academia. Up-skill and certify 45 Lacs personnel in 150 trades, train 24,000 trainers, accredit 500 training organizations and to cover the whole country progressively over a period of 10 years by signing MOUs with around 200 industries Facilitate Training the Trainer. Develop necessary frameworks for standards, curriculum and quality assurance at all levels in vocational / technical programs to meet the needs of the industry. Participate in regional and international vocational telecom sector development initiatives.
